The 1991 Dodge Caravan has 10 recalls, the most serious being a porous anti-lock brake system pump that leaks brake fluid, eventually eliminating both anti-lock braking and power-assisted stopping, which extends stopping distances and raises the risk of wheel lockup.
Two recalls address the rear liftgate: the latch assembly can open in a collision, leaving rear occupants at risk of ejection, and separately, the bolts holding the liftgate strut can fail under repeated use, causing the liftgate to drop without warning on anyone standing beneath it. On the seatbelt side, the anchor hook for the center rear right outboard seat can pull free from its body mount in a crash, leaving that occupant unrestrained. The buckle covers on stalk-mounted front seatbelts can also pop loose and jam the release button, leaving the buckle only partially latched.
The driver's wiper and turn signal systems each have concerns as well. The left windshield wiper pivot arm can detach from its shaft and stop wiping entirely, cutting visibility in rain or snow. The turn signal flasher is also incorrect and will not alert the driver when a signal bulb burns out, meaning other drivers may get no warning of an intended turn.
