The 2001 Dodge Ram has 7 recalls, the most serious involving upper front control arm fasteners that can break and allow the front axle to rotate, twisting the steering linkage and potentially severing brake lines.
Two of these recalls address the same underlying issue: a loose alternator wire connection at the power distribution center can overheat and start a vehicle fire. On the rear suspension side, Quad Cab models with a camper and overload spring package may have rear axle u-bolts that lose clamping force, allowing the rear axle to shift out of position and cause sudden loss of control. A separate recall covers vans where wheel lug nuts may not have been torqued properly, meaning a wheel can loosen and separate without warning. Finally, certain 2500 Wagon models were fitted with tires rated for too light a load, and running the vehicle at maximum weight can cause a blowout.
