All eight recalls stem from the same underlying problem: the wheelchair lift's safety detection systems, including the anti-stow interlock and threshold warning sensor, may not register the presence of a wheelchair or mobility aid user in certain positions on the platform. When that detection fails, the lift can begin stowing or moving while still occupied, putting the user at serious risk of injury. These recalls were filed by several different van conversion companies, including Van Products, Quality Vans, Handicapped Driver Services, and Access Mobility, each of which installed these lifts on Ford E-250 vans they modified for accessible transportation.
