The 2006 Ford E-250 has 10 recalls, all involving Ricon platform-style wheelchair lifts that can move or collapse unexpectedly, posing a serious injury risk to anyone using the lift.
Several of these recalls share the same core problems. On some lifts, the anti-stow interlock or threshold warning system fails to detect a wheelchair or mobility aid user in the lift area, meaning the platform can begin to stow while someone is still on it. On others, the folding link arm pivot holes are oversized, allowing internal bearings to shift out of position until the platform mounting fails and the platform separates from the lift, coming to rest against the vehicle's lift door. A related structural issue involves side plates on the lift platform that can crack, also causing the platform to detach. These recalls were filed by multiple mobility conversion companies, each responsible for a portion of affected vehicles equipped with Ricon lift models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510.
