The 1996 Ford Econoline has 4 recalls, the most serious being a parking brake that may not hold the vehicle on a steep incline, risking a rollaway if left unattended on a grade.

This vehicle also has a recall affecting compressed natural gas (CNG) models only: the fuel fill valve can shed flakes of its internal nickel plating, causing the valve to leak and allowing natural gas to escape into the air. On the visibility side, a missing electrical ground connection can prevent the brake system warning lights on the instrument panel from illuminating, leaving the driver without any dashboard indication of a brake system problem. This recall only affected cutaway incomplete vehicles, and all were reportedly corrected before final delivery. Finally, on travel van conversions, the two front seats may be missing head restraints entirely, which leaves occupants without the support that limits how far the head snaps rearward in a rear-end collision.
