The 1995 Ford Explorer has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the front inner tie rods, which can fracture and cause a wheel to tuck inward or outward, leading to loss of steering control and a potential crash.
The brake system also has a concern affecting certain vehicles: brake tubes between the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit may be misrouted, which causes stopping distances to exceed safe limits. Over time, this misrouting can also abrade the master cylinder seals, creating an internal fluid leak that reduces braking performance further. On the suspension side, the front stabilizer bar link stud can crack from fatigue and break, causing the vehicle to lean more than normal in corners and feel vague or loose in steering response, with noticeable wander or sway at highway speeds.
