2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty

The 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty has 3 recalls, all carrying fire risk: oil leaking onto hot exhaust components and a body control module that can develop an internal short and overheat.

Two of the recalls affect trucks that were modified by upfitters and fitted with Muncie power take-off assemblies driving auxiliary equipment such as air compressors. On those vehicles, oil can leak from a pressure switch in the power take-off unit and soak into the thermal blanket wrapped around the exhaust system. Once that blanket becomes saturated with oil, the heat from the exhaust can ignite it. These two recalls come from separate upfitters, so trucks modified by either Jerr-Dan or Vanair may be affected, though only vehicles that received those specific modifications are involved. The third recall affects a broader range of trucks regardless of upfitter modifications: the body control module, which manages electrical functions like lights, locks, and windows, can develop an internal short circuit that generates enough heat to start a fire in the vehicle.
