1997 Ford F-350

The 1997 Ford F-350 has 3 recalls, the most serious being a missing retainer clip in the brake system that can cause a complete loss of braking ability, raising the risk of a crash.

Two of the recalls involve tires. The first concerns Firestone Wilderness AT tires in 15, 16, and 17 inch sizes: the tread can separate from the tire at highway speeds, sending rubber debris onto the road and causing the driver to lose control. The second tire recall affects trucks built at the Cuautitlan, Mexico plant between September 1996 and July 1997, where tires were cut at the bead during mounting. That damage can allow air to escape rapidly, and sudden deflation at speed can make the truck difficult or impossible to steer. On the brake side, a retainer clip that connects the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal arm may be missing entirely, meaning pressing the pedal may not transmit force to the hydraulic brake system, leaving the truck with severely reduced or no stopping power.
