The 2018 Ford F-450 SD has 7 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk from seatbelt pretensioner sparks that can ignite carpet or insulation inside the B-pillar area during a crash, affecting SuperCrew Cab models with carpet flooring.
On the drivetrain side, a driveshaft damper on 4x4 models can shift out of position over time, causing the shaft to fracture and lose drive power; a fractured driveshaft can also allow the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake is not set. There is also a fire concern tied to a prior recall repair: on trucks equipped with an engine block heater that were previously serviced under an earlier campaign, a damaged splice connector in the heater cable can overheat and melt surrounding wiring.
Two recalls affect rear visibility. The 360-degree camera's lens coating can degrade and produce a foggy image, and separately, the rearview camera can display a distorted, inverted, or blank image when reversing. On the exterior, daytime running lights may fail to dim when the headlights are switched on, reducing how visible the truck appears to other drivers. The tailgate latch on trucks with an electric release switch in the handle can trip on its own when water shorts the wiring, dropping the tailgate unexpectedly and spilling cargo into traffic.
