The 2008 Ford Ranger has 4 recalls, all involving the Takata airbag inflators, where both the driver and passenger frontal airbags can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.

Both the driver and passenger side frontal airbag inflators are affected. The inflators can degrade over time, particularly in high-humidity and high-temperature environments, and explode during deployment rather than inflating the airbag normally. When that happens, sharp metal fragments can strike the driver or passengers. These recalls are especially relevant for vehicles that have spent time in warm, humid climates such as the Gulf Coast states, Florida, Hawaii, and U.S. territories, though all affected vehicles are included regardless of current location.
