The 2009 Ford Ranger has 7 recalls, the most serious being front wheel spindles that can fracture and allow a wheel to fully separate from the truck, with no warning before it happens.
This spindle concern applies only to 4x2 models. On the airbag side, both the driver and passenger frontal airbag inflators are subject to recalls covering the same underlying hazard: the inflator can rupture or explode and send metal fragments into the cabin, striking the driver or passengers. These airbag recalls are part of the broader Takata inflator issue and are particularly relevant for vehicles registered or sold in high-humidity states and territories including Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas, as well as Puerto Rico and several U.S. territories, where heat and moisture accelerate the degradation that makes rupture more likely.
