The 1986 Ford Taurus has 4 recalls, the most serious being front brake rotors that can corrode and fracture, reducing braking at the affected wheel and extending stopping distances in a way that raises crash risk. At the same time, the throttle linkage can corrode and stick open, keeping engine speed elevated after the driver lifts off the pedal and reducing control of the vehicle. Both of these issues apply to all trims. The remaining two recalls affect station wagons only: young children left alone in the rear cargo area can accidentally trap themselves in the footwell of the rear-facing third seat or in the underfloor storage compartment, and the glazing in the windows does not meet the required safety standard for the material used in vehicle glass.
