1992 Ford Taurus

The 1992 Ford Taurus has 4 recalls, the most serious being two issues of equal concern: an electrical fault in the engine cooling fan circuit on 3.8-litre models, and a liftgate latch that can open unexpectedly while driving.

On the electrical side, 3.8-litre engine models that were previously repaired under an earlier recall received a maxi-fuse that does not adequately protect the engine cooling fan wiring, leaving the circuit without the level of protection it needs. On the liftgate, a defective latch mechanism can fail to hold in its primary locked position, allowing the rear gate to swing open on its own while the vehicle is moving, which creates a risk of passengers or cargo falling out.

Two additional recalls apply to more specific configurations. Police and SHO trim Taurus models are missing the French-language version of the airbag information label, which is a compliance issue for vehicles subject to Canadian safety standards. Separately, 3.8-litre engine models may also have been built with the wrong engine control processor, causing them to fall out of compliance with Canadian exhaust emissions standards.
