1999 Ford Taurus

The 1999 Ford Taurus has 4 recalls, the most serious being a fire risk on vehicles with the California emissions package, where a transmission oil cooler line can wear through and spray fluid onto the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter.

Two recalls address the same accelerator cable issue: a dash insulator retainer clip that was not fully seated at the factory can work loose and fall into the accelerator pedal pivot area, where it may jam the pedal and prevent the engine from dropping back to idle when the driver lifts off the gas. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue, which is why it appears across more than one filing. On the suspension side, front coil springs on vehicles registered or originally sold in a broad band of northeastern and midwestern states can corrode and fracture over time. When a spring breaks, the fractured end can puncture the adjacent tire, causing a sudden loss of air pressure that may result in a crash. This last recall is geographic in nature, reflecting the heavier road salt use in those regions.
