Electrical system complaints make up the largest named category for the 2017 Ford Taurus, with owners describing a range of intermittent failures. A recurring concern is the vehicle entering a reduced-power state, commonly called limp mode, without any warning lights appearing on the dash beforehand, which owners say catches them off guard at highway speeds. Backup camera problems also come up repeatedly, with owners reporting an inverted image, horizontal lines across the display, or the screen going blank entirely. Structural complaints, the second-most reported category, center on the B-pillar trim on the passenger side, where owners describe the panel detaching while parked or pulling loose during normal use. A smaller cluster of complaints involves exterior lighting. The B-pillar trim issue shows up across multiple reports, with both the driver and passenger sides mentioned, though the passenger side draws the most attention.

By System
The 2017 Ford Taurus has 6 recalls, the most serious involving rear suspension toe links on Police Interceptor and SHO Performance Pack models that can fracture and cause a sudden, unpredictable change in handling.
Two recalls address the same steering gear heat shield issue: the fasteners can corrode and let the shield detach, exposing the steering gear to excess heat and causing it to stiffen, requiring noticeably more effort from the driver, particularly at low speeds. There is also an ignition concern where the key can be pulled from the ignition while the transmission is not in Park, allowing the vehicle to roll away if the parking brake is not set. On the interior side, the B-pillar door trim on the driver and front passenger sides can detach while driving and become a road hazard. The rearview camera can display a distorted or blank image when reversing, reducing the driver's view behind the vehicle.
