On certain models equipped with Eaton anti-lock air brake controllers, a nylon piston inside the pneumatic valve can swell when it contacts contaminants that build up in poorly maintained air brake systems, which can interfere with proper brake operation. On W9000 trucks built during a specific production window in early 1975, pipe plugs were incorrectly fitted in the exhaust port of the trailer air supply valve, which can disrupt air flow and reduce braking effectiveness when towing a trailer.
