The 1995 Ford Windstar has 8 recalls, with multiple fire risks topping the list: a wiring harness that can wear through against an interior brace and short-circuit, and a loose alternator output wire that can overheat and ignite underhood.
Two separate fuel and brake concerns also carry serious consequences. The fuel tank on vehicles registered or originally sold in hot-weather southern states can develop cracks that allow fuel to leak. Brake line corrosion affects vehicles on both ends of the country: in northern salt-belt states, the brake line can corrode and leak fluid, extending stopping distances and raising the risk of a crash, while in hot-weather states a brake line routed near the catalytic converter can corrode from exhaust heat and eventually leak as well. On the chassis side, the front coil springs can fracture from corrosion, and a broken spring can contact and deflate a tire.
