The 2023 GMC Canyon has 4 recalls, the most serious being front wheel hub bolts that can loosen or break and cause a loss of vehicle control, alongside a front camera module that can trigger automatic emergency braking when no obstacle is present.
The wheel hub bolt issue stems from over-tightening during assembly, which damages the bolts and makes them prone to loosening or fracturing while driving, potentially causing a wheel to shift or detach. The automatic emergency braking concern, which overlaps two of the four recalls, involves the front camera module falsely detecting an obstacle and commanding a sudden stop or slowdown with no collision threat ahead, leaving following traffic without adequate warning. There is also a seatbelt concern: one or both front seat belt buckle attachment bolts may not have been fully tightened, which means the buckle can move out of position in a crash and fail to hold the occupant properly in the seat.
