What can fail
The lower ball joint rubber boot on both sides can rub against the steering knuckle and get cut. When the boot tears, road salt, dirt, and water enter the ball joint, causing it to wear prematurely.
What the fix does
Dealers will replace both steering knuckles to eliminate the rubbing interference and protect the ball joint boots.
