The 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 has 5 recalls, the most serious being a braking defect where a failed sensor triggers the driveline-protection system and causes the truck to pull sharply to one side without warning.
Two recalls address the same occupant safety concern from different filings: the front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may fail to deploy in a crash, leaving the driver and front passenger without full restraint protection. On the brake side, the vacuum pump that assists the brake booster can lose pressure over time, requiring more pedal force to slow the truck and extending stopping distances. There is also a documentation issue: the owner's manual on certain trucks may be missing instructions for the child seat tether and anchorage system, which can lead to an incorrectly installed child seat that does not hold securely in a crash.
