The 2006 Honda Accord has 14 recalls, the most serious being a defect in both the driver and passenger frontal airbag inflators that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
The airbag concerns extend further: loose front impact sensor bolts can prevent the sensors from detecting a crash, causing the airbags to deploy late or not at all. A separate recall covers certain vehicles where the passenger airbag module may not meet advanced airbag requirements, and another addresses passenger airbags that may have been installed incorrectly during a prior replacement, either of which can cause the airbag to perform improperly in a crash.
On the drivetrain side, a bearing in the automatic transmission can break and cause a short circuit that stalls the engine while driving. This recall only affects V6 models with automatic transmissions. Also limited to V6 models, a power steering fluid hose can leak onto the catalytic converter, producing smoke and potentially starting an engine fire.
There is also a tire concern: tires on certain vehicles may have sustained bead damage during mounting, which can cause air loss while driving. The final recall covers incorrect contact information printed in the owner's manual.
