1996 HONDA CIVIC Recalls — Canada & USA

The 1996 Honda Civic has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the driver-side airbag, which can fail to fully inflate in a crash or, in some cases, rupture its inflator and send fragments into the cabin. The passenger airbag carries a separate concern: the cloth flap covering the folded bag may have been tucked in too far during assembly, which can block the airbag from deploying correctly in a collision. On the braking side, a lubricant used during assembly can cause the brake booster check valve to stick, cutting off the power assist to the brakes and requiring noticeably more pedal force to slow the vehicle. Recalls 3 and 4 describe the same underlying brake issue and are treated as one problem here. There is also a minor concern with the accelerator pedal, which can feel rough or notchy when pressed, making it harder to make small speed adjustments at low speeds.
