The 2002 Honda CR-V has 15 recalls, the most serious being Takata frontal airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can explode in a crash and send metal fragments into the cabin, causing serious injury or death.
Several other occupant safety issues exist: front seatbelt buckle pretensioners can unlatch the belt during a crash rather than hold the occupant in place, front seat anchoring nuts may not be strong enough to keep the seats secured in a collision, and passenger airbags replaced at a dealer may have been installed incorrectly and can deploy improperly in a crash.
On the electrical side, the driver-side power window master switch can absorb moisture, overheat, and catch fire even when the vehicle is parked. The low-beam headlight switch wiring can also melt internally, causing the headlights to stop working.
Two separate issues can prevent the transmission from reaching Park: debris in the ignition key cylinder can allow the key to be removed before the transmission is fully in Park, and corrosion on the shift cable linkage can block the shifter from reaching Park at all. In either case, if the parking brake is not set, the vehicle can roll.
