The 2001 Honda GL1800 has 8 recalls, the most serious being a rear brake that can continue dragging after the rider releases it, generating enough heat to catch fire or causing unexpected braking that destabilizes the motorcycle.
Two recalls involve engine shutdown: a faulty engine stop switch can cut the engine without warning, and a crankshaft pulse rotor can fail and stall the engine mid-ride. Both leave the rider without power at potentially dangerous moments. There is also a structural concern: frame welds can crack under the stress of rough roads or potholes, and in the worst case the weld can break entirely, causing the rear suspension to collapse or the lower cross member to separate from the frame.
