The 2011 Honda Insight has 10 recalls, all involving the frontal airbags, with the most serious being a defect in both the driver and passenger airbag inflators that can cause them to rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, risking serious injury or death.
The remaining recalls stem from replacement inflators that may have been installed incorrectly during prior repair attempts. In those cases, the passenger frontal airbag can deploy improperly in a crash, reducing the protection it is meant to provide. Because multiple rounds of replacement work are involved, some vehicles may have had more than one attempt to address the underlying inflator issue, and not all of those repairs fully resolved the problem.
