The 2014 Honda Insight has 3 recalls, all involving Takata airbag inflators on both the driver and passenger sides that can rupture and send metal fragments into the cabin, risking serious injury or death.
Both the driver-side and passenger-side frontal airbag inflators are affected. In a crash that triggers airbag deployment, the inflator casing can burst rather than inflate the bag cleanly, scattering sharp metal shards toward the driver and any passengers. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve the issue for all affected vehicles, which is why multiple recall campaigns exist for what is essentially the same defect on both sides of the car. Any 2014 Insight that has not had its inflators replaced under these recalls remains at risk any time the airbags deploy.
