The 2000 Honda S2000 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a seatbelt retractor defect that can lock up or deform, making it impossible to pull the belt out and leaving the occupant unrestrained in a crash.
The seatbelt concerns extend further: on convertibles with the top down and the seat pushed fully rearward, the belt may not retract properly and can develop enough slack to reduce its ability to hold an occupant in a collision. Prior repair attempts did not fully resolve this issue, and some filings address the same underlying retractor and slack problems across different configurations. On the lighting side, the side marker lamp lens in the tail lamp assembly was made with incorrect dye that fades over time, reducing the visibility of the lamp to other drivers.
