The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has 6 recalls, the most serious being a charging control unit that can fail over time, drain the 12-volt battery, and cause the vehicle to lose drive power while moving.
A separate but related parking concern appears in two forms. A software error in the shifter control unit can disengage the electronic parking mechanism and allow the vehicle to roll away on its own. On top of that, the parking pawl, a mechanical component that locks the drivetrain when the car is parked, can briefly release just after the vehicle is shut off, letting it move unexpectedly if the parking brake was not applied. A warning light and messages will appear before any loss of drive power occurs, giving the driver some notice before the situation becomes critical.
