The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has 4 recalls, the most serious being a high-voltage battery defect where misaligned internal electrodes can cause the battery to catch fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven.

Two other recalls involve separate failure paths that both cut drive power. The integrated charging control unit, which keeps the 12-volt battery topped up while driving, can fail and stop charging that battery entirely. When the 12-volt battery drains, the vehicle loses drive power, which can leave the car unable to accelerate or maintain speed in traffic. There is also a rear driveshaft that can fracture under load, producing an abrupt and complete loss of drive to the rear wheels with the same result: the car stops moving when the driver needs it to. A fourth recall covers a software update to the charging control unit that addresses the same charging failure through a different remedy, so the underlying risk is the same even if the fix differs.
