The 2019 Hyundai Kona has 4 recalls, with the most serious being a fire risk in the high-voltage battery on Electric models, where an internal short circuit can ignite the battery pack.
Two of the recalls address this same battery fire risk on Kona Electric models, and a separate recall for those same vehicles covers the brake control software, which can misread a sensor signal and sharply reduce braking power, extending stopping distances. On the non-electric side, Kona models equipped with the 2.0L engine may have piston oil rings that wear prematurely, causing the engine to stall or allowing oil to drip onto hot exhaust components and catch fire.
