The 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe has 8 recalls, the most serious being rear trailing arm corrosion that can cause the arm to fracture while driving, raising the risk of a crash.
The rear trailing arm issue primarily affects vehicles in high road-salt regions of the US and Canada, where salt exposure works into the steel over time and can thin or perforate it until the arm breaks. A separate but related corrosion concern involves the front coil springs, which can weaken and fracture, allowing a broken spring to contact and puncture a front tire and cause sudden air loss. Both suspension concerns are limited to salt-belt areas.
On the mechanical side, vehicles equipped with the 2.7-liter V6 engine have a recall covering a faulty crankshaft position sensor that can cause the engine to stall unexpectedly. There are also two label-related recalls: the tire pressure labels on certain vehicles do not include all the required information, and some wheel rims are missing required markings.
