The 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe has 6 recalls, the most serious being three separate fire risks: an aftermarket trailer wiring harness that can overheat, an ABS module that can short-circuit and catch fire even with the ignition off, and an engine control module issue on 2.4L models that can cause engine failure and fire.
On the mechanical side, two recalls address the intermediate driveshaft on 2WD models with the 2.4L automatic: the shaft can wear due to misalignment with the output gear, producing a whirring noise and eventually causing transmission damage that cuts drive power. The front suspension coil springs can also corrode over time and break, which can damage the front tires and cause sudden air loss. There is also a powertrain software concern on 2.4L models: the engine control module can be updated to detect early signs of engine trouble before a failure causes a sudden loss of power while driving.
