The 2005 Hyundai Tucson has 10 recalls, the most serious affecting models with electronic stability control, where a faulty yaw rate sensor can trigger uninstructed braking at individual wheels and cut engine power, causing the driver to lose control. The airbag system has two related concerns: on certain vehicles, the driver airbag may deploy with reduced effectiveness in a frontal crash when the driver is small-statured and unbelted, and in some cases the airbag may fail to deploy at all under those same conditions. The parking brake has its own issue, covered across multiple filings: a defective ratchet pawl can damage the ratchet teeth, leaving the parking brake unable to fully engage or causing it to release on its own, which can allow a parked vehicle to roll. Rounding out the list, the brake light switch on certain vehicles may have been incorrectly installed during assembly, meaning the brake lamps may not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal, leaving following traffic unaware that the vehicle is slowing.
