The 2017 Hyundai Tucson has 4 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: connecting rod bearings in the 2.0L engine can wear prematurely and cause the engine to seize or leak oil onto hot components, and the anti-lock brake control unit can corrode internally and short-circuit, potentially starting an engine compartment fire.
Both engine-related issues can also cause a sudden stall or loss of power while driving, raising the risk of a crash. Prior repair attempts for the connecting rod bearing issue did not fully resolve the problem, which is why it appears across more than one recall campaign. There is also a trailer hitch concern on certain vehicles: a wiring fault can cause the trailer's brake lights to stay on continuously, which may confuse drivers behind the trailer and raise the risk of a collision.
