The oil pump issue involves the electronic controller for the idle stop-start system, where damaged components inside the controller can cause it to overheat and potentially ignite. On models fitted with the optional Mobis tow hitch, an incorrectly installed wiring harness can let moisture into the control module, which can either knock out the trailer lights entirely or trigger an electrical short. Losing trailer lighting leaves following drivers without warning of braking or turns, and a short circuit brings its own fire risk.
On the steering side, the circuit board inside the electric power steering assembly can short circuit, causing the power steering to stop assisting.
