The 2019 Hyundai Veloster has 5 recalls, the most serious involving engine failure that can cause a sudden loss of power while driving and raise the risk of both a crash and a fire.
Two of these recalls affect the engine on vehicles with the 2.0L engine: piston oil rings can wear the engine internally, leading to rising oil consumption, abnormal noise, and eventually a stall or engine failure. Oil reaching hot exhaust components in that scenario can start a fire. On the performance N trim, the high-pressure fuel pump can fail, causing rough running and a sudden loss of power. The remaining two recalls describe the same underlying issue: in a side impact crash, the driver's door latch and locking cable can be damaged, allowing the door to swing open and raising the risk of occupant ejection.
