Summary
The Isuzu NQR has 7 recalls spanning 2003 through 2019, with the most serious being a transmission failure on 2013 models equipped with automatic transmissions that can cause sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion, raising the risk of a crash.
A separate drivetrain concern affects 2008 models, where the driveshaft can fracture and separate from the vehicle while driving, also cutting propulsion and creating a road hazard for following traffic. On 2012 gasoline-engine models, a software calibration error in the engine computer means that if the brake pedal switch fails, pressing the brake will not disengage cruise control, leaving the vehicle at speed with no automatic way to cancel it. Also on 2012 through 2016 models, the on-board fire extinguisher can malfunction and fail to discharge properly when needed. Going back to the 2003 model year, vehicles equipped with the optional dual fuel tank system have a fuel switching solenoid that can allow water or salt intrusion, causing fuel to overflow from the filler neck and leak onto the ground. On 2019 models sold in Canada, the odometer displays distance in kilometers but labels the unit as miles, a compliance issue with minimal safety consequence.
