The 1995 Jeep Cherokee has 6 recalls, the most serious involving brake rotors that can shed their wear surface from the hub, reducing stopping power, and a pedal placement issue on automatic transmission models where drivers can accidentally press the accelerator instead of the brake.
On the safety equipment side, some driver's side airbags were assembled without an arming lever and will not deploy in a crash. The parking brake release button can separate from the handle assembly, leaving the parking brake unable to hold the vehicle on a slope. There is also a lighting concern: certain vehicles are missing the required third brake light, making the vehicle less visible to drivers behind it. Note that the rotor recall only applies to vehicles originally sold or registered in certain northeastern and midwestern states.
