Summary
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has 11 recalls spanning 1984 through 2025, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2022-2024 models where third-row seat belt buckles can be inaccessible or damaged, leaving rear passengers unable to fasten their belts before a crash.
The current generation, covering 2022 through 2025, accounts for the bulk of recalls. On 2022-2023 models, the upper B-pillar interior trim can sit proud of its mounting and block the side curtain airbag from deploying fully in a side impact, reducing protection for all three rows. A separate issue on 2022 models involves the second-row center seat back, whose recliner pull strap can bind on the seat trim and prevent the back from locking upright, leaving a passenger without a properly supported seat in a crash. The rearview camera on some 2022 vehicles can fail to display an image when backing up, removing the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle. There are also two trim-related issues: rear quarter glass trim on 2022 models and door trim on 2022-2025 models can both detach and become road hazards for other vehicles.
Going back to 1993, the front suspension cam bolts on that model year can bend or crack, causing the vehicle to pull sharply to one side under braking without warning. The 1990 model year, on vehicles with the 5.9-litre engine, has a catalytic converter issue that causes exhaust emissions to exceed standards. The 1986 model was built with contaminated brake fluid. The earliest recall covers 1984 models, where the front inner wheel bearings can run without adequate lubrication, seize at low mileage, and cause loss of control.
