18 recalls across 9 model years
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer has 18 recalls spanning 1984 through 2026, with the most serious recent issue being a software defect on 2022 models where the airbag control module can disable the driver, passenger, and knee airbags without warning, leaving occupants unprotected in a crash.
The 2023-2024 model years share a separate airbag concern: a faulty clockspring in the steering column can prevent the driver's airbag from deploying in a crash. On 2022-2023 models, the upper B-pillar interior trim can sit improperly and block the side curtain airbag from deploying fully, reducing protection against ejection in a rollover or side impact.
Third-row seat belt access is a recurring issue across the current generation. On 2022-2024 vehicles, the third-row buckles can be difficult to reach or may have been damaged during assembly, leaving rear passengers unable to fasten their belts. The 2022 model year also has a second-row center seat whose recliner strap can bind against the seat trim, preventing the seatback from locking upright and leaving it free to move in a crash.
Several trim detachment recalls affect 2022-2025 production. Door trim on 2022-2025 vehicles and quarter-window trim on 2022-2024 models can work loose and fall off while driving, becoming road hazards. Rear quarter glass trim on 2022 models has the same issue.
Rearview camera failures appear across multiple model years. On 2026 models, a wiring harness connection issue can prevent the backup camera image from appearing. The 2024 model year has a software fault in the camera module with the same result. On 2022-2024 vehicles, the park assist module software can suppress the rearview image when reversing, and 2022-2023 models have a separate radio software issue that can also blank the camera display.
Going back to the early 1990s, 1993 models have front suspension cam bolts that can bend or crack, causing the vehicle to pull sharply to one side under braking. The 1986 model year has contaminated brake fluid that can degrade braking performance. The 1990 model year, on 5.9-liter-equipped vehicles, has a catalytic converter issue causing excess exhaust emissions. The 1984 model year has front wheel bearings that can seize from insufficient lubrication and cause loss of control.
