A smaller number of owners report a clicking or grinding noise from the front axle area, present from early in ownership. Electrical complaints are far fewer but include a recurring battery drain pattern where the battery discharges during short parking periods and owners notice the vehicle not fully recharging after driving. The 2022 Jeep Cherokee has 5 recalls, the most serious involving the power transfer unit, which can fail and cause the vehicle to lose drive power or roll away unexpectedly.
On the occupant safety side, a loose connector for the right-side curtain airbag can prevent it from deploying in a side-impact crash, leaving the occupant with less protection against ejection. Three recalls address turn signals and exterior lighting. The turn signal lever may not function when signaling a right turn, leaving other drivers with no indication that the Cherokee is about to turn or change lanes. Related to this, the turn signal self-canceling feature may not shut off after a turn completes, leaving the signal blinking when the driver no longer intends to change direction. On vehicles equipped with the trailer tow option, a software error in the body control module can cause the trailer's brake lights and turn signals to stop working entirely, meaning drivers behind the trailer have no warning when the vehicle is slowing or turning.
