The 2017 Jeep Compass has 7 recalls, the most serious being a drivetrain defect on 6-speed transmission models where the left front halfshaft can disengage or break, causing sudden loss of drive power and disabling the park function, which raises the risk of a crash.
Two recalls address instrument cluster lighting: on certain vehicles, the cluster backlight cannot be dimmed, which can reduce visibility at night and raise the risk of a crash. There is also a fire extinguisher recall covering vehicles equipped with certain Kidde brand units that may fail to discharge properly in a fire. The owner's manual contains an error where the battery terminal diagram shows reversed polarity in the jump-start section, and following those instructions can result in injury from incorrect cable connection. This last issue is covered by two filings but describes the same manual error.
