The 2022 KIA K5 has 5 recalls, the most serious involving two separate fire risks: a fuel tank that can expand, contact hot exhaust components, and melt, and a fuel line connection on turbocharged models that can leak near the high-pressure fuel pump.
A third powertrain recall affects the transmission's fail-safe mode, which is meant to keep the car moving at reduced speed when a fault is detected. If the oil pump malfunctions, the fail-safe may not engage and the vehicle can lose drive power entirely. On the steering side, certain models with the 2.5L turbocharged engine use an electric power steering system that cannot detect communication faults, which can cause a sudden increase in steering effort. There is also a safety equipment concern: side curtain airbags on some vehicles may have been installed incorrectly and may not deploy properly in a crash.
