32 recalls across 8 model years
The Kia Telluride has 32 recalls spanning the 2020–2027 model years, with the most serious recent issue affecting 2024 models where engine valve springs can break while driving, causing sudden loss of power and potentially punching a hole in the engine block that allows oil to contact hot surfaces and start a fire.
The 2027 model year carries several safety restraint concerns: the third-row center seat belt buckle can fail to latch properly, leaving an occupant unrestrained in a crash; the driver seat belt retractor can lock up and prevent the belt from extending at all; and on Hybrid SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige trims with the Executive Package, second-row power seats can continue moving after contacting a person, creating a trapping risk especially for children. The 2025 model year has two seat-related recalls: front seat back frames on vehicles with power seats can fail to hold occupants in a crash, and an incorrect spare tire can impair the anti-lock brakes and traction control when installed.
The 2023–2025 model years share a door belt molding trim piece that can detach and become a road hazard. The 2023 model year also has damaged second-row side airbag wiring that can prevent those airbags from deploying in a side-impact crash, and certain 2023 models with a 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen can start up with a completely blank display, hiding warnings and vehicle data.
On 2022 models, the instrument cluster display can go blank at startup due to circuit board issues, hiding the speedometer, gear position, and warning lights. There is also an incorrect spare tire on some 2022 vehicles that can impair anti-lock braking and traction control when put into service. The 2021 model year has a passenger seat sensor that can fail to detect a child restraint in the front passenger seat, which can result in the front airbag deploying into a child in a crash.
Going back to 2020–2024 production, the front power seat slide knob can stick, causing the seat motor to run continuously until it overheats and starts a fire, even with the vehicle parked. A separate driveshaft engagement issue on 2020–2024 models can allow the vehicle to roll away while in Park. On 2020–2022 models with a Genuine Kia 4-pin tow hitch wiring harness, moisture and debris can cause an electrical short on the circuit board that leads to a fire while parked or driving.
The 2020 model year alone accounts for several additional issues: axle shaft splines can wear and allow the vehicle to move while parked without the parking brake applied; seat belts across multiple rows may not properly secure child restraints in a crash; the Smart Cruise Control system does not trigger trailer brake lights when it applies the brakes while towing; and high-beam headlights can fail outright, reducing nighttime visibility.
