43 recalls across 19 model years
The Kia Sedona has 43 recalls spanning 2002–2020, with the most serious recent issue being a 2020 model year recall where a loose alternator battery terminal nut can arc and start an engine compartment fire.
The 2020 model year also shares with 2006–2010 models a separate fire risk: moisture entering the anti-lock brake module can cause an electrical short that ignites a fire even with the vehicle parked and off. On 2017–2019 models, the airbag control unit cover can damage a circuit board chip and leave the airbags unable to deploy in a crash. The 2019 model year on 8-passenger configurations has a second-row center seat belt buckle that can be installed on the wrong side, making the 3-point belt unusable.
On 2015–2018 models, the occupant detection system wiring under the front passenger seat can break over time on manually-adjusted seat versions, preventing the airbag from suppressing when a child seat is in use. Power sliding door models from those same years can fail to auto-reverse when the door meets an obstruction. The 2015–2017 models have a software fault that can activate the turn signal in the opposite direction the driver intends.
The 2011–2012 fuel rail can crack from engine heat and leak fuel near ignition sources. Those same years also have an airbag control unit that can short circuit in a crash and prevent front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners from firing. On 2007–2011 models, the stop lamp switch can fail and leave brake lights dark during braking. The 2006–2014 secondary hood latch can corrode and bind open, so if the primary latch releases the hood can fly up while driving. On 2006–2012 models in salt-belt states, the front lower control arms can corrode and fracture, causing sudden loss of steering control.
The 2006 model year has its own cluster: rear brake caliper hoses can rub against suspension components and leak fluid, reducing braking; stop lamp switch wiring can chafe against the steering column and cause brake lights to go dark or the engine to stall; and a corroded secondary hood latch predates the broader 2006–2014 recall. The 2003 model year has a throttle cable that can freeze and stick in cold weather, preventing the engine from returning to idle and causing unintended acceleration, along with an ABS module programming error that reduces braking force below 25 mph. The 2002 model year has multiple throttle cable issues with the same stuck-throttle consequence, rear seat belt anchor bolts that can break in a crash, second and third row seat strikers that can fracture in a crash, and misrouted power seat wiring that can repeatedly trip a fuse circuit breaker.
