The 2017 Kia Sedona has 4 recalls, the most serious involving the front passenger airbag and a sensor that detects whether a child seat is present, meaning a child in the front seat could be struck by a deploying airbag in a crash.
Two recalls apply only to vehicles with specific equipment. On models with manually-adjusted front passenger seats, the wiring under the seat that detects a child seat occupant can break over time, leaving the passenger airbag active even when a rear-facing child seat is installed. On models with a power sliding door, the door may not reverse when it contacts an obstruction, raising the risk of injury to anyone caught in its path. There is also an airbag control unit issue where the cover can press against a circuit board chip and damage it, causing airbags to stay inactive in a crash. Rounding out the list, a software issue in the junction box can cause the turn signal to flash in the opposite direction from what the driver intends, which can mislead other drivers about the vehicle's intended movement.
