The 2002 Kia Sedona has 8 recalls, the most serious involving the throttle cable, which can stick or jump out of position during acceleration and cause the driver to lose control of vehicle speed.
The throttle cable issue has multiple facets: it can shift out of position during normal acceleration, and in cold weather, moisture buildup can cause it to ice over and bind or dislodge, both of which can leave the throttle stuck open. There is also an electrical concern on vehicles with power seats, where wiring routed under the front seats can be pinched by seat components and repeatedly trip a circuit breaker, cycling through failure and reset.
On the occupant restraint side, two related issues affect rear seating. The second and third row seat belt anchor bolts do not meet required strength standards and can break in a crash, leaving rear passengers without proper restraint. The seat strikers mounted to the floor pan, which lock the seat frames in place, can also break in a crash and allow the seats to move, raising the risk of injury to anyone sitting in those rows.
