The 2006 Kia Sedona has 13 recalls, the most serious being two separate fire risks: moisture can enter the ABS module or the brake hydraulic control unit and cause an electrical short that can ignite a fire in the engine compartment, even with the vehicle parked and off.
Two brake hose recalls cover the same underlying issue: the rear brake caliper hoses can shift out of position and rub against the rear suspension until they wear through, leaking brake fluid and reducing stopping power. On the suspension side, road salt can corrode the front lower control arms until they crack and break, causing sudden loss of steering control. These corrosion-related suspension recalls apply to vehicles registered in certain northern and mid-Atlantic states where road salt is common. The hood latch presents another hazard: the secondary latch can corrode or bind and stay open, so if the primary latch is accidentally released while driving, the hood can fly up and block the driver's view. On vehicles equipped with adjustable brake pedals, the stop lamp switch wiring harness can sit too close to the steering column joint, wear through its insulation over time, and cause brake lights to go dark, the engine to stall, or the vehicle to not start.
