The 2009 Kia Sedona has 5 recalls, the most serious involving front lower control arms that can crack and break, causing sudden loss of steering and directional control. The control arm issue applies to vehicles registered in certain high-corrosion states where road salt accelerates deterioration. On the electrical side, moisture can get into the anti-lock brake module and cause a short circuit that starts an engine compartment fire, even with the vehicle parked and off. The hood latch also has a concern: the secondary latch can stick in the open position, so if the primary latch is accidentally released while driving, the hood can fly up and block the windshield entirely. There is also a brake light switch that can fail, preventing the brake lights from turning on when the pedal is pressed and disabling cruise control shutoff, which reduces the warning other drivers have when the Sedona slows.
