When the automatic locking retractor releases, the belt falls back to its standard mode and can no longer hold a child seat tightly in place, raising the risk of the seat shifting in a crash. Separately, the lower anchor hardware in the rear seat can interfere with the seat back frame, preventing the anchor from engaging fully, which means a child seat clipped to those anchors may not be properly secured either.
