The 2023 Kia Soul has 5 recalls, with three of them involving fire risk: an electric oil pump circuit board that can short circuit and ignite, a separate oil pump controller with damaged electrical components that can overheat, and engine piston oil rings that can cause internal engine damage leading to a stall or fire.
The airbag recall is also significant: side curtain airbags can deploy without a crash due to a manufacturing error, which raises the risk of injury or a loss of control. On the electrical side, vehicles with a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster can start up with a completely blank display, leaving the driver without access to warning lights, tire pressure alerts, and other key information.
